|
|
This project is completed and may be found in the LibriVox catalog at: http://librivox.org/the-saga-of-eirik-the-red-by-anonymous/
Hi,
So I'd like to try a solo project, and this seemed a good place to start since it's a short saga (maybe one hour spoken??), but especially relevant for us [north] Americans. I'm thinking of doing a longer saga next (there are several with PD English translations), but we'll see how this goes. Any advice / comments / feedback much welcomed.
Btw, for the moment the author is Anonymous (same as Gutenberg), but Unknown might actually be more precise. It has 15 chapters, some of them very short, so I'm currently planning to break it into 6 roughly equal parts. I can make this fewer (probably 3 instead) if that's better.
Text is here: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/17946
Potential file naming scheme: eiriks_saga_#_anon.mp3
ID3 tag for Title: # - Chapters xyz
Artist: Anonymous
Album: Eirik the Red's Saga
What do you think?

Julian --
Mind if I MC this one? I'm a sucker for poetry which is hundreds of years old.

| Of course - that would be wonderful. I should say that it's more prose than poetry, however. There's some great old Icelandic [skaldic] poetry, much of it quite complex and thus unfortunately very hard to translate. Of course the distinction between the two is blurry, especially that many centuries ago, so I hope it's still appealing to you! |

Great - thanks!
I see that the magic window has already appeared, although I think I need a password for the BC link below it? (I've never BC'd anything before) Does the naming scheme look okay?
I'm looking forward to this |

Okay here's the first installment:
http://download.yousendit.com/695CBBE334914896
It's only 09:52 in length, so if anyone wants to listen and give comments before I do the rest, that would be much welcomed. [also means it would be pretty easy to re-record]
Note that the story picks up a little bit... this is just the genealogy that has to precede all older dramas. The original audience knew who everyone was and appreciated the context, it seems. |

Listening now. It sounds great, onward!
What a lot of unpronounceable words and you're doing an excellent job pronouncing them. |

Thanks Kristin -- I shall proceed!
I actually audited a semester of Old Norse, trying to read some of these in the original, but of course pronunciation wasn't the main focus in the class |

And here is part 2 (chapter 3), clocking in at 15:57...

I used the abbreviated form of the disclaimer, partly per the discussion elsewhere in the forum about what to do for interior segments of books. I trust that this is okay!

Thanks Caet - I won't argue with that either
Just wanted to make sure it was kosher with LV policies, but it seems like it covers all the bases.

Kosher is as kosher does -- or so I've heard. In your project, anything you want to do is fine as long as it doesn't violate public domain.
