I would like to do L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz as a Solo Project.
I know that someone else is working on the Oz books and I don't want to step on anyone elses project, but would like to lend a hand.
Please let me know if this would be ok. I didn't see it in the completed books section, but I may have missed it.

Actually, Anita Dobbs is working on the Wonderful Wizard. There is a thread for it somewhere on the Going Solo forum, try a page or two down. However, as mentioned earlier, multiple versions are OK. _________________ "To please a child is a sweet and lovely thing that warms one's heart and brings its own reward." L. Frank Baum |

Is there some process for Solo projects? Who is going to be the person responsible that I send my files to?

Most of what you need to know is explained in the first post of this forum: http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=717
Additional information on how to get started with your recordings can be found in the LibriVoxWiki here: http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/ _________________ Multiple projects lead to multiple successes!

Yep yep! I'm a very firm believer in the Read What You Love approach.
If you're just trying to help get the series done, be assured, The Wonderful Wizard is in production right now.
But if you love this book, then I'm awfully glad you're reading it, too! _________________ Anita

I don't want to duplicate someone else's efforts. I can go hunting for something else. Maybe something a bit smaller to start with. Just thought it was be a good place to start.
I'm up for any suggestions...
Mybe Les Miserables? But I might need someone to help me with some of the French.

You're totally welcome to read the Wizard.
It's a great idea, though, to do some shorter stuff first, and there are so many fantastic projects to join on.
So you know a little French already?
LOTS of folks will coach you on French (people are so wonderful here!).
You post your questions in Need Help? forum -- ideally, paste the text you're wondering about (all the phrases) into a post and then some super helpful person with great French accent will record those bits for you and then you can just sound so wonderful by imitating them! It's fun! I don't speak a spec of French, but I've had wonderful coaching in just that way. Ooo la-la!
And then come back to Oz, and give us *your* Wizard . . . _________________ Anita

Was that an attempt to be funny? Because I laughed. Not at the thought of you or anyone doing Les Mis. becuase I think that would be a great book to get out there. But, at the thought of it being smaller than ... well ... anything ^_-

If you ever need help with French, just do as Anita said. If I'm around, I'll certainly help with it.
And as Sean says, Les misérables is HUGE, something close to 1500 pages
You might like to start with some shorter work. Why not try the weekly poetry ? |

Just seconding the weekly poetry suggestion.
It's a great way to try out your recording setup with a short piece of work.
Read the opening post to the poetry thread, follow those instructions, record your piece, upload it somewhere either to yousendit.com or your own webspace perhaps and post the link in a post reply message on the poetry thread.
Ask for feedback and other folk will be able to check out your recording and offer advice if needed.
Once you've got that under your belt you'll be able to launch into bigger projects with confidence.
Good luck

yeah, that was my lame attempt at humor. Glad it wasn't wasted.

I swear, I swear, I've seen Les Mis listed as a collaboration!
When folks started laughing at the joke, I went off to search for the project link, composing my reply: "You sillies, he meant reading A Chapter for the collaboration..." etc etc
but

No, Anita, you're right - it has at least been suggested as a collaborative project. I'd love for someone to take it up!

Hey there, J.
The Wonderful Mizard of Lez sounds interesting, but I can't find the text on Project Gutenberg.
