This project is now complete. All files can be found on the catalogue page:

http://librivox.org/history-of-holland/

HISTORY OF HOLLAND by GEORGE EDMUNDSON
D. LITT., F.R.G.S., F.R.HIST.S..
  1. How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are up for grabs. Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you'd like to read (include the blue number, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
Target completion date of this project: June 30, 2007 – but try to send your recordings as soon as you can. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
  4. Where do I find the text?
    Gutenberg e-text: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/14971/14971-h/14971-h.htm#page_vii
  5. Please claim chapters (the blue numbers)!
Note that if I have not heard from you by June 15, 2007, I will reassign your chapter(s).

    link

  6. BEFORE recording:
    Please check the Recording Notes:
    http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6427#6430

    Set your recording software to:
    Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz preferred, 32 and 22.5 also acceptable

  7. DURING recording:
Make sure you add this to the beginning and end of your recording:
    Start of recording (Intro)
    • "This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Say:
" HISTORY OF HOLLAND, BY GEORGE EDMUNDSON." [Chapter]"

    End of recording
    • At the end of the section, say:
      End of [Chapter]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of HISTORY OF HOLLAND, BY GEORGE EDMUNDSON."

Please leave 5 seconds silence at the end of your recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes!

Also, please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!

  8. AFTER recording:
    Save files as
    128 kbps MP3
    historyofholland_##_gedmundson.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is your chapter number. (historyofholland _01_ gedmundson.mp3)

    ID3 V2 tags
(To find out more about ID3 tags, go to our wiki: http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/WhatIsID3)
Add the following tags to your .mp3 file (how you do this depends on which software you use – if you are unsure about ID3 tags, send me a message). Please mind upper and lower case!

    Title: Holland##-[Chapter name]
    Artist: George Edmundson
    Album: History of Holland
Please ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Files can either be posted here in the forum (link to your webspace) or emailed via http://yousendit.com to: huibstarlite AT rogers Dot com (if you use yousendit, it's helpful if you'll post the resulting link in this thread)

I have set a folder for people who can ftp. Here is the relevant info:

    ftp.studioae.com = ftp address
    LibriVox =ftp user name
L1br1V0x = ftp password (no vowels - they are all numbers)
    Folder name = Holland

Help on ftp can be found here:

I'll need the following information from you when you submit a recording:
    - your name as you want it to appear in the LibriVox catalog,
    - your webpage URL (if applicable)
    - the runtime of the recording in format hh:mm:ss

Anna will proof listen the recording as we progress.

Any questions?
Please post below or PM me.

NOTE: If there are words you are unsure how to pronounce, please post them in the thread and Anna will make a recording of them for you.

Excellent!
We have a fine team already.
Starlite, myself and Anna.

I shall be intrigued to hear this one.
As far as I can tell the odds against this nation coming into being are absolutely massive.
I shall be intrigued to hear how they managed it and during the time when Spain and France completely dominated Europe.

The Spanish and French, where kindly but firmly requested to leave.
When they didn't leave, we kicked them out. More or less. Laughing

Greetings Anna

I am experimenting with writely.com to make the text more easily accessible. Chapter one has a link under it now and will continue to make the others available as I have the time. This is soooooooo cool! Smile

Just looking through the chapter I claimed.
There's a number of words that I may have some difficulty attempting to pronounce. I'm sure I could guess somewhere near for many but if anyone can help out with pronounciation either as mp3 files or phonetic spelling then I'd much appreciate it.

The words are:

Enkhuizen and Hoorn
Tidor, Ternate, Amboina, Banda
Cornelis Matelief
Jan Pieterzoon Koen
Pieter van der Broeck (is this Brock?)
Antony van Diemen
Staten
Groote Eylandt
Reinierz
Jan van Riebeck
Usselincx
Jacob Willekens
Piet Hein
Willem Schouten
Boudewyn Hendrikszoon
Adrian Jansz Pater
San Thomé de Guiana
Pernambuco
Hendrik Cornelisz Lonck
Jonckheer Diederik van Waerdenburgh
Hertogenbosch
Biberibi and Capibaribi.
Arreyal de Bom Jesus
Marten Thijssen
Vereenigte Provintien
Provintie van Utrecht
Waerdenburgh
Maranhão
Oxenstierna
Leyden, Alkmaar
Friesland and Groningen

Yes, writely.com is v cool! We should put info about this into the wiki - perhaps in the BC FAQ. Certainly this makes it very easy for readers to look at a section (though more work for the BC, initially). I tried the link on chapter 1 and I'm not authorised to access it...

OK maybe I have to check the faq on there. Bear with me as I sort this out. It is a great idea.

Jim, I plan on getting a pronounciation file up in the next few days. I will have to ask me mum for some of them I think.

For everyone else: if there is a word you do not know and I have not yet posted, please ask. I would like it to be as close as possible to what it should be. This way people like Anna won't laugh too much at us.

Anna: You think your son would be up to helping with pronounciations?

Thanks all. Smile

I'll help with the pronounciation, as soon as I have found out how that audacimecalleit works. Razz
