Folklore of the Santal Parganas
Translated by
Cecil Henry Bompas
LibriVox Volume One
Hi again,
Here is another charming collection of folk tales. It is a glimpse of a culture whose folklore I believe LibriVox has not yet explored. Since there are over 200 stories in this collection, I have decided to divide it into eight LibriVox volumes--so as not to drive our wonderful MCs nuts.
Please post a reply here if you would like to claim a chapter to read from this book.
Include:
*your name as you would like it to appear in the LibriVox book catalog listing;
and, if available,
*your Web address.
Thank you!
MariaSC

RECORDING:
At the beginning of your recording, please include the following:
1. Standard LibriVox disclaimer: "This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit LibriVox.org."
2. Name of the book ("Folklore of the Santal Parganas")
3. "Translated by Cecil Henry Bompas"
4. "Part I"
5. Roman numeral and name of the story you will be reading (E.g., I. Bajun and Jhore")
6. OPTIONAL I also would like readers to include: "Recorded by <YOUR NAME AS YOU WOULD LIKE IT KNOWN>".
7. You might also include your location.
- At the end of your recording, please say: "End of <NAME OF STORY>".
If you are reading the last story, please also add: "End of LibriVox Volume One of Folklore of the Santal Parganas"
- Please record or convert files to 128 KBPS MP3.
- Using all lowercase letters, please name MP3 files as follows: folklore_santal_parganas_XX_bompas.mp3
"XX" indicates the Section number being read (e.g., 01, 02...). This is the first number in each story listing below. (It is not the Roman numeral corresponding with the chapter in the Gutenberg text.)
- Using capitalization as shown below, please include the following ID3 tags:
*Title - <ROMAN NUMERAL>. <Name of Story>
(E.g., "III. Ledha and the Leopard")
*Album - "Folklore of the Santal Parganas"
*Artist - "Cecil Henry Bompas"
*CD Track Number - <Number at the beginning of the story listing>
(Not the Roman numeral--e.g., 01, 02...)
*Comments - RECORDED BY <NAME OF READER>

Maria, I love these folk story collections! Thank you for starting this one! ... I'll MC this for you too (you're always welcome to drive me nuts, but good call on splitting this into volumes =)
And while I'm at it... I'd like to read: 22. XXI. The Magic Cow
...something about a magic cow I can't resist =) _________________ Multiple projects lead to multiple successes!

Hi Betsie,
Thanks for claiming #22! (LOL)
...
And thanks for the links to more information about this culture. The preface of the book is also pretty interesting.
As far as pronunciation, I found that if you Google it, Google has a "Definition" link to the "Answers.com" page for Santal with a link to an audio of its pronunciation (sahn tahl). I'm just following my screen reader as far as Parganas (par ga na ss.
