August 10th was our 1-year anniversary! Happy birthday, LibriVox :)
We're celebrating with an amazing audio treat, created by Maddie (MermaidMaddie), Esther (Starlite), Anita (a.r.dobbs), Alan (Cloud Mountain), and John (johng), and of course all the volunteers who contributed.
Please take a listen. I know you'll enjoy it as much as I did!

I am back from a wonderful camping trip, to find this wonderful wonderful gift to everyone at librivox, from so many of you at libirvox. thanks to everyone who worked on it (edit: lets name them: mermaid maddie, starlite, johng, anita, alan ... were there others?) and everyone who contributed both to librivox & to this really fantastic, sublime work. so wonderful. choked up a couple of times, esp those clips about what people think about librivox. so so so so moving to hear different voices (many of whom I have heard only bringing text to life) talk about this place with so much love and passion.
I am going to do some more PR stuff on Monday ... a couple of days late from the official B-day, but goodness this thing needs to be heard. anyone who ever asks anything about librivox... well all the answers are here.
thanks thanks thanks.

I hope that Kara and Hugh don't mind that I've made a small correction in their post to slightly better reflect reality. We'd need a neon font to properly denote the hard work that Maddie and Esther have put into the project.
What a wonderful community of people here at LibriVox. I'd like to take every one of you out for a drink/soda/coffee/tea and a long, long chat about books, sharing, and whatcha been up to.

Yes!
I'd like to add that from what I saw through my meagre contribution, Maddie and Esther did weeks of backbreaking work! They deserve the Pulitzer, no the Libritzer! They gathered together dozens of dozens of disparate pieces, made selections and pasted them together appropriately and seamlessly! Veritible audio cut-and-paste artists! (With a dash of sleight-of-hand.) And their selections were perfect. Artists they were!

I posted this in the other thread but I'll paste it here now that we have a nice new thread for it...
| LibraryLady wrote: | | Maddie, Esther, Anita, Alan, John - everyone thank you so much for putting this together. It is a truly brilliant piece of work, a one hour LibriVox immersion. The bloopers reel is so incredibly funny and mixed together expertly. Bravo, well done! |
It's amazing how I have come to associate certain voices with certain books and characters. When the recording started with John narrating, I thought, oops, I somehow put Tom Sawyer on instead. When Squid was talking about LibriVox it was odd because to me his voice is the voice of Jim in Treasure Island. Gesine - this is unbelievable to me but I don't think I ever heard your voice before this and it is so nice to be able to associate that with your name.
Two overriding themes that stuck out to me that are almost contradictary: people love LibriVox because everyone is free to do what they want and be independent, and people love LibriVox because everyone works together and is friendly. I think that is a rare thing, to create a project where people feel that they are able to both be independent and be comfortable working in collaborations. _________________ Annie Coleman Rothenberg

This was an awesome episode. I am making a special episode for my podcast where we discuss Librivox and I was wondering if you mind my using the interview with Hugh portion in our podcast. I figured it was the best way to introduce the idea of Librivox to our listeners. Any objections from the people who worked so hard putting this episode together? _________________ -Christiane Levesque |

Great job, everybody! I loved matching the voices to the screennames!
The bloopers were hilarious! I listened to it so many times and I still laughed!
I particularly liked the sampler section. Getting to hear the variety was great and now I have to go find a few of those recordings! _________________ There is no frigate like a book
