The catalog page for this project can be found here: http://librivox.org/book-of-tobias-douay-rheims-version/

Tobias is the 17th book of the Bible and one of the historical books in the Old Testament. In the text, Raphael, after revealing his angelic nature, commanded both father and son to tell all the wonders that God had done to them and write it in a book. It is likely that the parts of the book written in first person singular are an autobiography of Tobias the elder. It was written originally during the Babylonian Exile, in the early portion of the seventh century B.C.; and that all except the last chapter was the work of Tobias the elder and his son.

The story naturally divides itself into two parts: the fidelity of Tobias the elder and of Sara to the Lord; and the fidelity of the Lord to Tobias and to Sara through the ministrations of the angel Raphael. The chief purpose of the book is to show that God is faithful to those that are faithful to Him. Tobias the elder carries out God's will through prayer, almsgiving, and his works of mercy in burying the dead. Tobias (the son) and Sara follow God's word through their chastity and prayers.

Hello Sean,
This sounds wonderful. I'm going to listen in on your files later tonight. So much has been happening this week, I hadn't noticed your post till just now! Someone should come along very soon to MC this project. If not, I'll be back to offer myself to MC (a tad overextended at this moment).
Thank you so much for this contribution!
Sorry for the delayed (and not thorough) response!

Anita

Hi, Sean!

I'll be your MC for this interesting project. I studied a bit of religion and theology. Edit: This project is now listed in the to come catalog page.

Best,
Nikolle

Let's see as far as etext...
The text that I'm actually reading from is:
http://www.gutenberg.org/files/8300/8300-h/8300-17h.htm
However, the type of Gutenberg page that is usually linked to is:
http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/8300, but it's burried in those 74 HTML links.
Or, there are either one of these two that have a table of contents to the different book (similar to what is used on the catalog pages for what Robert Garrison has done in Job and Song of Songs):
http://www.gutenberg.org/files/8300/8300-h/8300-00h.htm
http://www.gutenberg.org/dirs/etext05/drb0010h.htm
So I'm not sure which is the best link to use.

For cataloging, we will use the main links page: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/8300

It is helpful, however, for anyone's current interest, that you have let them know about the specific link to the text itself:
http://www.gutenberg.org/files/8300/8300-h/8300-17h.htm

Thanks, Ladies, I went ahead and modified the links to the ones that you suggested Nikolle. Sounds like a plan ^_^

For the summary, I think I'm going to use a combination from the intro to the text and from newadvent.org (as long as it is okay to use the summary in the text as summary for the text O.o ).

Also, I was wondering about making the file names something like 17tobias... so, if someone downloaded more than one book from the same version, the filenames could still be in order in that folder. would it be alright to start the file name off with numbers?

And lastly, it looks like I have slightly higher and lower volumes inside of the file for part 2, so I might have to equalize it, any pointers since I've never tried that before?

Thanks again for everything.

I think that it would be perfectly fine to use an excerpt from the text, especially since we know that's PD and it acts like a teaser for the content. Can we verify that the text at newadvent.org is in the public domain? If not, we can't use it.

Best,
Nikolle

I will check on this to make sure it's fine for cataloging.

By the way, Sean, you have a great voice for this material. I listened to some of it and you have the right pace and tone. Looking forward to the finished project.

Best,
Nikolle

Hiya, I posted a screenshot of my EQ and compression settings here:
http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/KaraShallenberg/setup

Compression is probably what you want to try first. Just a touch. Back up your file, then copy my settings and try them. See how it sounds. Too much compression sounds like a nightmare, so be careful :)

I mean to post before-and-after waveforms one of these days...

Okay, just a brief update.

I've noted about a dozen places where I over modulated, so I'm going to go back and re-record some sections in there.

After that, I think I'll post in listeners wanted to let others slaughter it.

Oh, and thank you Kara for pointing me in the direction of the compressor to try to level out the volume (I'll hit that up before posting in the other forum).

I periodically update the files listed above so if anyone wants a listen at anytime, they should be the latest (as long as YSI doesn't give you any problems like has recently to some people around here, apparently).

Nikolle's your MC, she just hasn't stuck her initials up in your subject line yet.
(See third post in thread.) Smile

Actually, she sent a PM saying that she wouldn't be around for a while and would leave it for another MC. So, I took her initials off and bumped it up to the top.
