Complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page:

DUET: This project is being undertaken by kayray (Kara) and mcrandall (Michelle), each reading the letters of one woman. Guest male appearances have been made by Peter Why, 12makoto, Dsayers, and earthcalling.
Letters of Two Brides by Honoré de Balzac.
Introduced to this book in a post by Denny touting the duet style of LibriVoxing, Michelle thought, "That is something I WANT TO DO!" Happily, Kara had posted a reply to Denny saying that she thought that Two Brides sounded wonderful. Hence, this duet project was born. Here's a summary, cobbled together from AllReaders.com and Gutenberg:
Letters of Two Brides is an epistolary novel. The two brides are Louise de Chaulieu (Madame Gaston) and Renée de Maucombe (Madame l'Estorade). The women became friends during their education at a convent and upon leaving began a life-long correspondence. For a 17 year period, they exchange letters describing their lives. Renée, coming from a noble but poor family, has decided to marry Louis, a bourgeois of the country. She will dedicate her life to motivate her husband, to help him hold a position in society and to bring up their three children. She has given up her dreams of passion but will find happiness in this life that is in accordance with the laws of the society.
On the contrary, Louise de Chaulieu, brought to Paris by her wealthy family, has decided to lead an independent life and wait for the man of her dreams. She will find him in the Spanish Baron of Macumer who'll worship her and marry her. But, the Baron, exhausted by this life dedicated to a woman who is unable to accept the slightest sagging of his love will soon die. A few years later, Louise will fall again in love, this time with the poor writer Gaston Marie. Fearing that their love would fade in the fast life of Paris, she will hide their love in the country and leave the brilliant world she live in until then.
Is there a deadline for this duet project?
Target completion date of this project: 2007.

Thank you so much for setting this up for us, Michelle :) Are there five separate men's parts, or is there some overlap?
I don't know how to pronounce "Honore". Help! _________________ Kara

Honore = "on-UH-ray"
...with the "r" guttural.
At least this is according to my boss at work, who spends a month each year in France...anyone else have a take on pronunciation?

Thanks, Peter! I think two of the letters come from the same man, one of the women's husbands. The others are one each, I think... I'll figure it out and post the character names on each, denoted "male" and then you can pick what you like.

It might be worth putting a query in the Advice thread "Help wanted with French pronunciation" ... there are quite a few French speakers who may just not have looked at the book thread and seen your question.

Yay! The duet catches on!
Will you be MCing this yourself, Kara? Or shall I MC this lovely project?

Anita, I would be so happy if you'd like to MC for us! Perhaps, between the two of us, Michelle and I can collect all the files as we go and then dump them on you when we're finished. :) _________________ Kara

I have deciphered the letters written by male authors, finally. Here is how it breaks down:Don Felipe Henarez - marries Louise, one of the two 'Brides', letters 6 & 23.
Don Fernand Henarez - Don Felipe's brother, letter 14.
Monsieur Louis de L'Estorade - marries Renee, the other 'Bride', letter 29.
Marie Gaston - second husband of Louise, letter 49.
Denny & Peter, please give us a shout and let us know your preferred characters.
Thanks!

To Come - Solo Projects has you listed.
I have two thoughts though,
1) that this might better be considered one of the Dramatic Works
and
2) perhaps the catalog should have a Dramatic Works category as well.
