|
|
This book is now complete and can be downloaded from the LibriVox catalogue here: http://librivox.org/a-vindication-of-the-rights-of-woman-by-mary-wollstonecraft/
A Vindication of the Rights of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft.
NEW: Long chapters have been broken down into more manageable chunks.
One of Melvyn Bragg's 12 Books that Changed the World. For others, see here.
- How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are up for grabs. Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section youd like to read (include the blue number, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
- New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
- Is there a deadline?
Target completion date of this project: 1st September 2006 but try to send your recordings as soon as you can. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and itll go back to the pool. Theres no shame in this; were all volunteers and things happen.
- Where do I find the text?
Gutenberg e-text: Link
- Please claim by section number!
(BC admin link)
- BEFORE recording:
Please check the Recording Notes:
http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6427#6430
Sample rate
1. 44.1KHz is the default sample rate in lots of software. We like getting files at this rate.
2. Some know-it-all ;-) told us that 32KHz sounds better. If you know how, try to use this rate.
3. We want to make this easy, so we'll take any rate from 22 to 44.1KHz, if you need us to.
4. Please don't use 48KHz or anything under 22KHz. If you accidentally send us something at these rates, our uploaders will resample it for you and advise you on how to record at a sample rate we can use. Don't worry, your work will never be wasted!
- DURING recording:
Make sure you add this to the beginning and end of your recording:
Start of recording (Intro)- "This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
- If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
- Say:
"A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, by Mary Wollstonecraft. [Chapter]"
End of recording- At the end of the section, say:
End of [Chapter]"
- At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, by Mary Wollstonecraft."
Please leave a couple of seconds silence at the end of your recording!
Also, please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!
- AFTER recording:
Save files as
128 kbps MP3
vindication_#_wollstonecraft.mp3 , all lower-case, where # is your chapter number. (vindication_01_wollstonecraft.mp3)
ID3 V2 tags
(To find out more about ID3 tags, go to our wiki: http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/WhatIsID3)
Add the following tags to your .mp3 file (how you do this depends on which software you use if you are unsure about ID3 tags, send me a message). Please mind upper and lower case!
Title: Chapter ###
Artist: Mary Wollstonecraft
Album: A Vindication of the Rights of Woman
Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Files can either be posted here in the forum (link to your webspace) or emailed via http://yousendit.com to: alex.foster[AT]zetnet.co.uk (if you use yousendit, it's helpful if you'll post the resulting link in this thread)
While we're waiting for the project to be finished, the files will be available at www.alexfoster.me.uk/librivox/votrow
I'll need the following information from you when you submit a recording:
- your name as you want it to appear in the LibriVox catalog,
- your webpage URL (if applicable)
- the runtime of the recording in format hh:mm:ss
Any questions?
Please post below or PM me. :) _________________ www.alexfoster.me.uk

Oh, Chapter 2 please!
How do you plan to number the beginning Sketch and Introduction for the purpose of file naming? If Chapter 1 is "vindicationrightsofwomen_01_wollstonecraft.mp3" then the Introduction could be "...00...mp3", but what would be left for the Sketch? _________________ Laura "Fox in the Stars": fan-author, puppyshipper.

The Sketch can be 00a and the Introduction 00b, then chapter 1 01! :)
Alex, to sort them properly in the players, the ID3 title tag should be more specific - I think you just left it unchanged from the template: [Chapter number or title]
Should be something like 00a - Sketch, then 00b - Introduction, then 01 - Chapter 1, 02 - Chapter 2, etc.
It's so annoying when files don't come up in the right order. :)
I'll have to look at my schedule - will come and claim something later, probably. After all, it's about the vindication of the rights of women! Thanks for coordinating this, Alex. _________________ "Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination circles the world." Albert Einstein |

Ah, thanks Fox and Gesine for working out a way forward for those two introductory texts. I was wondering how to do it.
And thanks Fox for taking a chapter. _________________ www.alexfoster.me.uk

Hi Alex, I'll MC this for you... do you have server space, otherwise I can keep the files for you.
Sign me up for chapter 10 - I can manage a very short one...
Regarding the intros - Should the letter at the start be read with 00b, or will you read it with 00a? Might be worth pointing out to whoever signs up for it.
Think that's all! :) _________________ "Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination circles the world." Albert Einstein |

Thanks Gesine. I should have enough space to host all these until we're done. I've clarified where I think the boundaries are.

I'm noticing that Chapter 5 has 5 internal sections; could we maybe break it up and number them 05a through 05e? _________________ Laura "Fox in the Stars": fan-author, puppyshipper.

I was thinking it was rather long... but then, someone like Chip could come and claim it... he can read for *hours*... ;) _________________ "Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination circles the world." Albert Einstein |

I'd happily volunteer, but I probably wouldn't be able to get to it for a couple more weeks. I've got a couple of Return Of The Native chapters and a solo project for which I haven't read even the first word yet...
How about if you just let it sit there. If nobody's claimed it in a couple of weeks I'll happily read the whole thing in an evening. _________________ -Chip

I just read this book for a class this semester. I LOVED it.
I'd like to read Chapter 1.
I'm new, but I think I can handle it. |
