When I was a kid, my dad got deployed to Desert Storm for about 6 months. I was probably about 6 or 7 at the time, so 6 months may as well been a hundred years. But he would read stories onto tapes and then mail them to me. I would listen to them while going to bed.

I often think about that when I edit my LibriVox recordings because my voice, intonation, accent, etc, all sound very much like my dad's did (or at least how I remember it). It's a good memory. Makes editing much more enjoyable.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. Cool

What a gift, to hear your father's voice in your own! Thanks for sharing. Smile

Lovely memory! Smile

I still have the story tapes I made for my son twenty five years ago. I should dig them out of the attic and listen to what I sounded like at 30. Laughing

Sigh... It's a beautiful memory, Daniel. And finding your dad's voice in your voice is a wonderful thing.

What a wonderful memory!!!

I too have a tape my mum recorded for me when I was 2 and afraid to fall asleep. I still have it in my bedside table... I really must listen to it again some time. Smile

I've got some tapes in which my big brothers (BOTH of them) try to sing. LOL, they're all funny, how they try to sound better than the other, and higher and all. And then the oldest one gets annoyed and calls mother to shut the second one up. I was too small a baby then, I guess, but I've listened to tape a thousand times or more, and I can imagine what it would've been like Laughing

Just think Daniel, that in 20 years or so, your grandchildren will be listening to you read to them! (Even if you are halfway round the country by then) SO COOL! Cool

Thanks for the comments, everyone. It is interesting to think about future progeny listening to my recordings. I best ramp it up, then Mr. Green

Yay, Daniel, just 2 more recordings, and you'll be making a 100! And then 200, 300... Wow, and your grandkids, great-grandkids and everyone will listen to ALL of them. Whee.

I didn't even realize I was that close to the big 100. Cool. I should throw an e-party. Everyone is invited. It's BYOB and pick your own time. Grab a cold one of your favorite beverage, put on some Boz Scaggs, and just get down, baby. Very Happy

I have a CD of my dad reading The Night Before Christmas that my family made 2 years ago, because I was spending Christmas in Germany with my boyfriend, but it was family tradition to gather round and listen to Dad reading that every December 1st (which we did on the phone after I came to uni) and December 24th. It's even got a bonus message from my parents at the end, where they wish me a Merry Christmas, then try to work out how to turn off the recording. *g* Then my brother grumpily stomps in and helps them with it. It nearly made me cry because it captured all of their personalities so perfectly, and I'll always be able to listen to it and hear that.

No kids yet, but if I ever do have some, I'll make sure they listen to lots of LV recordings.
