Evening Star
by Edgar Allan Poe

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/evening-star-by-edgar-allan-poe/

Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!
This week's poem was chosen in honour of Poe's 200th birthday - Jan.19, 2009.

This week's poem can be found here.

Please be sure that your recording software is set to the following technical specifications: Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44100 kHz

Have questions on "how"?
Check LV's Recording Notes thread before recording: http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6427#6430
If this is your first recording, you'll also find this useful: http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/NewbieGuideToRecording

Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
Quote:
Evening Star by Edgar Allan Poe, read for LibriVox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, your location, and/or your personal url.]

Then read the poem:

Quote:
'Twas noontide of summer,
And midtime of night,
And stars, in their orbits,
Shone pale, through the light
Of the brighter, cold moon.
'Mid planets her slaves,
Herself in the Heavens,
Her beam on the waves.

I gazed awhile
On her cold smile;
Too cold—too cold for me—
There passed, as a shroud,
A fleecy cloud,
And I turned away to thee,
Proud Evening Star,
In thy glory afar
And dearer thy beam shall be;
For joy to my heart
Is the proud part
Thou bearest in Heaven at night,
And more I admire
Thy distant fire,
Than that colder, lowly light.

At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:

Quote:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.

Please leave a few seconds of silence at the end of your recording.

Save your recording as an mp3 file using the following filename and ID3 tag format:

File name - all in lowercase: eveningstar_poe_[your initials].mp3 (eg. eveningstar_poe_klh.mp3)

ID3 tags (Version 2):
Artist Name: Edgar Allan Poe
Track Title: Evening Star - Read by [YOUR INITIALS] (eg. Evening Star - Read by KLH)
Album Title: LibriVox Weekly Poetry
Comments: (optional) Recorded by [your name]

Transfer of files:

Please upload with the LibriVox uploader:

http://upload.librivox.org

If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin
You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: sj - smijen

Please post a link to your file in this thread.

When you post your link, please include your name as you would like it credited on the catalogue page and any URL by which you would like it accompanied. (Note: This is only necessary if you have not done so for another project.)

If you wish to contribute, please have your readings submitted by 0600 GMT Sunday, January 25th (12:00AM CDT)

(And remember, anyone can suggest a poem for a certain week and/or coordinate an upcoming weekly poem! If you'd like to suggest a poem or coordinate a future Weekly Poetry project, please visit this thread.)

Thanks for the Poe.

Mine runs 1:03.5

Let me know if I'm still too quiet (last time I submitted, I was short a few decibels) . I've got my input volume maxed out, so I may have to start amplifying things (or maybe just stick my head closer to the microphone and speak up Smile )
