MR MIDSHIPMAN EASY by Captain Frank Marryat.

Quote:
One of the first novel-length pieces of nautical fiction, MR. MIDSHIPMAN EASY (1836) is a funny and easygoing account of the adventures of Jack Easy, a son of privilege who joins the British navy. The work begins as a satire on Jack’s attachment to “the rights of man” that may try the listener’s patience. But despair not, for the story soon settles down as the philosophical midshipman begins his many triumphs over bullies, foul weather, and various foreigners of murderous intent.

Frederick Marryat (1792-1848) entered the navy as a midshipman at 14 and resigned his commission at the rank of captain after 24 years of service to devote his time to writing. This mid-19th century novel employs the occasional racial epithet and religious stereotype that the modern listener may find offensive. (Summary by Adrian Praetzellis)

Thanks Jo! You're on.

Realistically it'll be a week or so before my first post. I'm leaving for NYC on Tuesday to meet my brand new granddaughter - can't wait.

Regards,

Adrian

Wow Exciting! Congratulations! Very Happy Dress warmly. It's supposed to be pretty cold out here this week. We might even get a little snow - at least that's what the weather folks keep threatening. Wink

Meanwhile I'll set up the MW for you shortly and move this over to Going Solo so you will be all set to start whenever you are ready.

Jo

Het bezoek was prachtig. Zij slapt en eet en is zeer vrij (natuurlijk!).
