LibriVox Multilingual Poetry Collection 008
All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/multilingual-poetry-collection-008/
This collection is for poetry in any language. Feel free to choose any poem which is in the public domain.
If you're unsure what we mean by 'public domain', please read this explanation.
Each reader should not submit more than two poems in any language (per collection). It's fine if we have several readers submitting poems in the same language. It's also fine if the same reader submits poems in more than one language. It's also OK to submit readings in English (English being a language, I figure), but as there are plenty of other places to put those, let's limit them to special cases such as interesting regional dialects or accents.
Each collection will consist of twenty poems.
If you are interested to see what has been done previously, check the previous Multilingual Poetry Collections in our catalog (but we welcome multiple versions of the same poem).

NB - The intro and outro can be in English, or in the language of the poem.

At the End say: "End of poem. This recording is in the public domain"; then leave 5 seconds of silence.
If you are new, please check the Recording Notes thread before recording:

Open for business!
I carried over two poems that overflowed from the last collection. If I forgot any recordings along the way, please forgive me, and help me find them! |

Hello Varra,
Thank you for your enthusiasm for this project, but I'm afraid I have some bad news for you: at least 2 of the poems are probably not in the public domain in the USA...
I've done some detective work to find the poets & publication years:
All the works submitted here have to be in the public domain in the USA (where the Librivox servers are) and in the country of the recorder. For the USA this basically means: has to be published in 1922 or earlier. See the following link for more information: http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/CopyrightAndPublicDomain#head-231cfc1c51dadc1d6509bced79931c5c60e20cfa.
So we won't be able to accept the 2 recordings of the Indonesian poems. If you could check that info for the Javanese poem, that would be great! (The same holds for the two previous poems, did you check those?)

Hello Lezer
The Javanese poem is definitely in the public domain as it was written more than a hundred years ago (it was found in some old manuscript). However, I am very sorry for the other two poems. I had thought that all Wikisource's contents were safe since it is stated that its content is in the public domain.
Sorry for the trouble again,

Hi Varra,
Great, thanks for checking that out - I don't know any Javanese, so I couldn't make out the wikisource page! - so can you give me the title & author of the Javanese poem? I think the author is "Sinom" ?? But the title I don't know - what is on wikisource seems to be different from the recording name?
And re: the 'public domain'-ness of wikisource: I don't know the details; one important factor is the country, probably. I think in Indonesia, the public domain law states that everything is public domain when the author has died more than 50 years ago. So the second poem would be public domain in Indonesia for example (author died in 1946), but not in the USA - so you could put the recording on an Indonesian server without problems, but we can't put it in the Librivox catalog....

Hello Lezer
First, I have to thank you for your very informative post. Secondly, to address the issue on the Javanese poem, the "author" (actually the manuscript the poem was found in; like most Early Javanese poems, the author is unknown: hope that does not matter!) is Serat Kalatidha and the poem title is Sinom. I have tried looking for more information on the poem many times but to no avail. I guess that this poem is just too old.
Thank you,
Varra Unreal |

Hello Lezer!
I have just uploaded a short Russian poem.
Since it is my first recording I am not sure that everything is correct.

Anna and Varra,
I've sneakily swapped the Javanese recording (Sinom) with one from Volume 7 (Gambuh) that needs editing before it can be catalogued.
That way, I can catalogue Volume 7 now and take the pressure off Christianese to re-record the intro.
I hope that's OK with you both...

Hi David,
That's fine with me! It's a good solution I think.

Hello Chamberlain,
Welcome to Librivox! Your recording is beautiful. You have a very nice voice, clear reading, no background problems etc. Settings all seem correct. I've listened and it is all ready to go into the catalog as soon as the collection is full.
I hope you do some more recordings for Librivox! On this page, all your contributions will be easily found: http://librivox.org/newcatalog/people_public.php?peopleid=2826
Anna
PS oh - if I can find one small comment: the titles of mp3 files should all be in small characters, no capitals - don't worry, I've already changed that on the server. |
