I can't say I agree with Piper about sentience. The Oxford defines it as consciousness, susceptibility to sensation. My dog is sentient. He feels things in his canine way. I'm not sure about spiders and I'm pretty sure a cabbage is not. Even if we take Piper's meaning for the word which is something more like intelligent or rational I can't see that it must be all or nothing.

I guess sentient and sapient are different.
| Quote: | Sapient
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French, from Latin sapient-, sapiens, from present participle of sapere to taste, be wise — more at sage
Date: 15th century
: possessing or expressing great sagacity |

I was thinking Ruth had smuggled the Fuzzies out with that machine, but I was figuring she was trying to protect them and would not tell... I forget names. The company head... about it. _________________ Read Josephus' Antiquities of the Jews! |

I thought so too. (About Ruth). Do you suppose she's an agent for the guys up on the moon Xerxes?
Here is Chapter 11

The arguments here about sapience are similar to the arguments about sentience I was making earlier. Do you suppose he means by sapience what we would mean by sentience - conscious thought - or something very like it? |

PL OK on 11 and 12.
At this point, I've stopped trying to conjecture and will just enjoy the story, I think. LOL!
And Pappy Jack's fuzzies must still be alive. They've got to be. _________________ Read Josephus' Antiquities of the Jews! |
