hi, i'd like to volunteer to make some cd covers. (i'm quite devastated that my voice is too lifeless/monotone to make an audio recording). So I still would like to contribute to LibiriVox.

Is there a cd that needs a cover? if yes, please email me at jennydisini@gmail.com

Just so that the cover design is totally relevant to the recording, pls brief me:
1) the books overall theme/moral.
2)The setting and time. is it 17th century england? or present day india?
2) what its personality is. if it were a film, would it be "Fight Club" or "Remains of the Day"?
3) if possible the URL of the audio or the text
( so i can listen and get a feel for what it should look like.)

I'd like to do some original art for this, maybe shoot pics of my own.
is that okay? also, do i use the librivox logo that's posted on this site? the green logotype?

also, should i download the cd template in the earlier post and use that as my guide?

also, what is the required resolution? 300dpi? tiff, jpeg or eps? I'm using a mac. pls advise if i should send a pc formatted file.

Thanks!!!

Hi jennydisini and welcome to LibriVox Very Happy

Most of our recordings have no cover yet. Have a look at the catalogue. If there is no picture, there is no cover.
Links to text and recording can be found on the catalogue page of each recording.
You can find more informations about the books in the summary on the catalogue page. I'd recommend to create covers for books you already know.

More information about file format, templates and picture size are in our Wiki here:
http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/CD_Covers

You are completely free in your design. Have a look at our covers to see what others did.
http://www.archive.org/details/librivox_cd_covers

Please note that we can only upload your work to archive.org when you release it into the public domain. If you prefer to chose another license, you must host it somewhere else, but we can link it to the catalogue page.
If you release it into the public domain, you can only use pictures already in the pd (pre 1923) or your own work.

Unfortunately I have no idea about mac but I guess that pdf and jpg are the same for PC and mac.

I'd recommend not to write down your email address in an open forum. You will get lots and lots of spam.

If you have any questions, please ask.

I cannot say anything about resolution/size, as I'm not able to print it out right now, but I do want to say: WOW! This is great!! Shocked

You may want to say something about the cover design as well, whether you'd want it to be PD (like the recording) or under a copyright/copyleft licence. Just to be sure, but maybe Hokuspokus can advise better than me? Confused

On a somewhat related note...erm... Embarassed May I hire you? Mr. Green
I have recently finished reading 'A tangled tale' by Lewis Carroll, a collection of humorous stories with mathematical questions, see this thread: http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21461
Right now, it is in the stage of being prooflistened to, and it will probably be in the catalogue by the end of the month.

I was thinking of doing a cover myself, maybe using the illustrations from the book, but then I looked around here, and I have to confess, I would not want to compete with any of you artsy guys around here... If you're interested... Very Happy

Hi Jen,

thank you for this beautiful cover Very Happy

What we need is a file in pdf named book_title.pdf and, if you want to save me some work, a jpg 300x300 pixel named book_title.jpg and another jpg 150x150 pixel named book_title_thumb.jpg
The 2 jpgs are completely optional. I can easily get them from the pdf.

The easiest way to create a pdf is Open Office (you can get the mac version here http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/download/index.html ), insert your pictures into the template from the Wiki and click on the pdf button.
At least I hope it works the same way as with my PC version.

I have done this and uploaded the result here: http://drop.io/hokuspokus
If you like it, I can go on adding it to the catalogue page.

This is not a competition, you know Wink
If you have fun creating a cover, go on and do it. It will be most welcome and I'm sure it will look great Very Happy

Thanks for the encouragement, however I'd like the covers to look at least semi-professional - all the others on here look like they have been done by pros - so as to not stick out like a sore thumb... Unfortunately, all I can do is semi, so I'll better leave it for somebody more proficient. Wink

I totally agree with hokus pokus.

You know this book way better than anybody else. You'll definitely have better insights into the theme. Smile

Hi Jen,

I'm really sorry that I had been so unclear.
Your file name was perfect the first time, it was the format that was not right. book_title is only the scheme.

I've downloaded your new file. the pdf is perfect. But the back side is hardly readable. I guess that was all my fault talking about separate jpgs. Forget all I've said about the jpgs and all about 300x300 and 150x150 pixels. You can use what ever resolution you find good for designing your cover. Only at the end you must make it fit into the template.

Only as example: I make my pictures 600X600 pixels, add the front picture to the template and scale it with this little handles to the right size. I do the writing on the back side only in Open Office and in very few cases I add a picture in the back ground only to have the rigth colour.

(Maybe this is horrible babel to everyone who speaks better English than I do. I'd be very thankful if someone who knows what I mean would put this in proper language. Sorry.)

Please let me know if you want me to use your pdf, if you want to redo it or if we could simply use the pdf I made from your first jpg.

Again, so sorry for the poor explanation. Embarassed
