Poems by the Most Deservedly Admired Mrs. Katherine Philips, The Matchless Orinda (1632-1664) .
This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/poems-by-the-most-deservedly-admired-mrs-katherine-philips-the-matchless-orinda/
| Quote: | | The poet Katherine Philips was called "The Matchless Orinda" in her day and was well known for her works, both personal and political. She was a staunch Royalist (a supporter of Charles I and his son during the English Civil Wars) and wrote poetic defenses of the monarchy. She was also part of a literary coterie, in which she and her friends had "code names." Philips herself was "Orinda," her husband "Antenor," and her friend Anne Owen "Lucasia." She is perhaps best known today for her passionate poems celebrating female friendship. (Summary by Elizabeth Klett) |
- Target completion date: December 15, 2009

If we don't hear from you for three months, your project will be opened up to a group project as soon as a Book Coordinator can be found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to have it re-instated).

I originally posted about this project here:
http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21205
libraryanne indicated some interest in being DPL - let me know if you're still interested!
A few notes on the text I'm using: I'm not going to include the introduction written by the editor, or any of the commendatory poems written about Philips. There are 121 of Philips' poems in this edition, and I'm going to only read those (divided into 12 sections).
I'm also not entirely certain what to title this project - the title of the whole collection is "Minor Poets of the Caroline Period," and the title of the section on Philips is quite long. I was thinking of reading this long title at the beginning of the first section, but abbreviating it to "Poems by Katherine Philips" as the project title and as the title in subsequent sections... I'd love to hear the opinion of the future MC, however. _________________ Richard III wants YOU. |

I'll MC it for you - the name looks fine to me - I've seen ones called "selected poems" but you aren't saying that it is all her poems .
I'll just set it up anyhow - we can change it easily enough if we have to

I've set it up
On further thought about your title , as in the catalogues things are set up as "title" by "author" it will look a bit odd saying "Poems by Katherine Philips by Katherine Philips"
Could go with "Poems of KP by KP" or "K P's Poems by KP" or "120 Poems " by KP or "Poems" by KP or something else that appealed
Anne
Lets wait here to see if Library Anne appears - maybe you could PM her ? |

What about calling it "The Matchless Orinda"? This is Katherine Philips' nickname, and part of the lengthy title of her section of the book. That way it would be "The Matchless Orinda" by Katherine Philips? If not, what about "The Poetry of Katherine Philips"? Or simply "Collected Poems"? _________________ Richard III wants YOU. |

P.S. The full title is "Poems by the Most Deservedly Admired Mrs. Katherine Philips, The Matchless Orinda." We could just go with that... _________________ Richard III wants YOU. |

Not enough room in the subject line for the whole title, but have changed it elsewhere. I'm hoping to start recording files on Wed. night! _________________ Richard III wants YOU. |

I've changed it in the catalogue - the subject line doesn't matter really , it often has to be pruned to fit.
So now we've sorted out the important details
