Complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page:
http://librivox.org/mansfield-park-by-jane-austen/

Mansfield Park by Jane Austen.

This is the LAST Austen novel for LibriVox! All the rest are completed or already fully claimed, so here's your chance to help complete our collection! Mr. Green

  1. How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
To find a section to record, simply look in the readers' box below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are “up for grabs.” Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you’d like to read. Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.

  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!

  3. Is there a deadline?
Target completion date of this project: 05-06-07 (yep, May 6, 2007) – but try to send your recordings as soon as you can. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it’ll go back to the pool. There’s no shame in this; we’re all volunteers and things happen.

  4. Where do I find the text?
    Gutenberg e-text: http://www.gutenberg.org/dirs/etext94/mansf10.txt
Another site in HTML format with one chapter per page: http://www.19thnovels.com/mansfieldpark.php

    (edit me)

Note: Tina has passed the book coordinating to Anita (a.r.dobbs); kri remains as the MC.

    Please check the Recording Notes:
    http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6427#6430

    Set your recording software to:
    Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz preferred, 32 and 22.5 also acceptable

  6. DURING recording:
Make sure you add this to the beginning and end of your recording:
    Start of recording (Intro)
    • "This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"

    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"

    • Say:
"Mansfield Park, by Jane Austen. [Chapter]"

    End of recording
    • At the end of the section, say:
      End of [Chapter]"

    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Mansfield Park, by Jane Austen."

Please leave 5 seconds silence at the end of your recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes!

Also, please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!

  7. AFTER recording:
    Save files as
    128 kbps MP3
    mansfieldpark_##_austen.mp3 , all lower-case, where ## is your chapter number. (mansfieldpark_01_austen.mp3)

    ID3 V2 tags
(To find out more about ID3 tags, go to our wiki: http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/WhatIsID3)
Add the following tags to your .mp3 file (how you do this depends on which software you use – if you are unsure about ID3 tags, send me a message). Please mind upper and lower case!

    Title: Chapter ##
    Artist: Jane Austen
    Album: Mansfield Park
    Genre: Speech
Comments (optional): read by (your name)

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Files can either be posted here in the forum (link to your webspace) or emailed via http://yousendit.com to: a *at* studioae -dot- com (if you use yousendit, it's helpful if you'll post the resulting link in this thread)
    or...if you have ftp software:
    host: ftp.studioae.com
    user: LibriVox
    pw: L1br1V0x
    into the folder named mansfield

I'll need the following information from you when you submit a recording:
    - your name as you want it to appear in the LibriVox catalog,
    - your webpage URL (if applicable)
    - the runtime of the recording in format hh:mm:ss

Tina's Old Announcement:
Generally, pronunciation questions are left up to the individual reader. However, Maria Bertram is an important enough character that a single pronunciation should be chosen, as otherwise, the listener could find it rather jarring if her name changed from one chapter to another.

Since the pronunciation poll ended in a tie, I'm going to make an executive decision:[/size]

Maria Bertram's name will be pronounced Ma-RYE-uh

Readers may want to consider doing a search and replace in their chapter(s) to change the spelling to "Mariah" if they have trouble remembering.

I don't want to be a tyrant about it, but for the consideration of our listeners, it would be best to have consistency for such an important character. Therefore, I will request readers to edit their recordings if we get any Ma-REE-uhs.

Any questions?
Please post below or PM a.r.dobbs (now acting as BC). Smile

For further pronunciation information, I will only add that place names in England tend to have syllables swallowed. For example, 'Portsmouth' would not be pronounced as it looks, but 'PORT-sm'th'. Tottenham = Tott'n'm, etc. This is contrary to the way general (British) English words are pronounced, where every syllable seems to get enunciated clearly, such as modem being MO-DEM (no syllable emphasized over the other, and the 'e' sound pronounced) rather than the American usage MO-dum.

I offer these observations (As an American living in England) for general interest, as I don't think place names being pronounced differently by different readers will be a huge problem for the listener.

I'll take chapters 03 & 04.

I would definately say Ma-RYE-uh. And also add, British pronunciation is fasinating. I lived in England for 3 years so have knowledge of certain idiosyncracies in pronunciation, though I don't get it right all the time. Smile

Thanks! 3 and 4 are yours! I like 'Ma-RYE-uh' better too, but I thought the readers had better decide. Smile

To quote heatherausten..."Ooh, more Austen"!

I'd love to have the next two, whatever they may be. Just assign away.
