This audiobook is now complete and can be downloaded from the LibriVox catalogue: http://librivox.org/les-liaisons-dangereuses-by-choderlos-de-laclos/

"Les liaisons dangereuses," de Choderlos de Laclos
suggestion de: Martine

e-texte disponible: ici (de Gallica)

For the summary, Ezwa wrote:

Cool!

My French is terrible, but my wife is bilingual ... I'll see if I can convince her to have a go. This is a terrific piece!

I have a Belgian friend coming over to do a "test letter" this evening to see how it will go for him. He loves the book and the flowerly old French. If he enjoys reading into the microphone, I'll twist his arm (just a little) to sign up to read the other 9 in the batch.

Oh, it went very well this evening. Laurent read two letters (which I will edit tomorrow or Wednesday) and we parted with an indifinite date but a promise to finish the rest soon.

Even though I can't entirely understand all the French, he has a very expressive reading voice. I think this will be a good addition to the project.

Hugh, would you please put Laurent's name next to chapitres 31-40?

A heads up to all book coordinators: I’ve updated the guidelines for how to be a book coordinator: http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=425

Probably the only new information you will need is this:

Quote:
Collect the following information for every file: reader's name, reader's webpage url (if applicable), runtime in hour/minute/second format --- 00:32:14. Save this information in a text document (Notepad, MS Word, etc.) to be emailed to us later. You can have the readers get this information to you by posting it in the thread, sending a private message, or sending an email, whatever works.

This shouldn’t take much extra time and will make the cataloging process much smoother and quicker. Thanks!

Hi, it's my first post, so bear with me if I haven't grasped the way it works. I am a native speaker from France (Paris accent but not too strong) and a woman.

Maybe it's now too late to suggest this, but wouldn't it be nice to have women read female characters' letters and men read males characters'?

Is there a deadline? I am very interested in recording several chapters, but probably won't be able to do so until the end of January.

So can I claim chapter 141-160? Or do I have to follow the order and claim 51-60 (even if I can't record them until then)?

TIA.

Clara

Welcome Clara!

You might also consider reading parts of Phantom of the Opera in English here: http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=310

Hello Clara, welcome to librivox. There are not many french speaking people around here yet, it's great to have different languages.

Before you start, the best thing is to take a look at this post:
http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=702
there are details about the file format and the process of recording and uploading.

But to answer your questions:
I do not know the book, but I presume you want that different characters are spoken by different persons. It is a lot of editing and coordination effort to do this. There is one project under way where this is tried (The importance of being earnest), but generally a chapter is spoken only by one person. I personally think it doesn't matter (I even like it more) if there is only one reader.

There is no deadline at which you *have* to send in your chapter. In many projects there are "completion targets", but that is flexible. After all, we all are volunteers here. In this project there is no completion date, you don't have to hurry (in fact, it has been here around for a while, because there are so few French speaker, so it's great you are here)

And finally, you don't have to follow the order of the chapters. Just take the chapters you like (the more the better Wink ).

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. You will get a lot of help here.

Enjoy you recordings,

Rainer

I wouldn't want listeners to commit suicide after hearing my atrocious accent when speaking English.

Oh, accent doesn't matter. Especially Kara (kayray) is always keen to hear different accents and dialects. And the French accent sounds nice (at least better than my German)

Thanks for your answers, Rainer. I'll keep 141-160 then, for now.

Not exactly. Actually, it's an epistolary novel (each chapter being a different letter), so since there are several readers for this project, it would have been nicer to assign each reader to a character (or at least have women read female characters' letters and men male characters'). Sorting out which letter is to be read by whom is obviously an extra work, but not as much as in the project you mention (a theatrical play with a reader per character).
