Remixfight provides audio and asks people to remix and upload the resulting tracks. The most recent episode asks remixers to go to work on David Barnes’ LibriVox recording of the Universal Declaration of Human rights. Great stuff.

Canadian literary/arts mag Descant has a great article on LibriVox, including this nice little para:
But “niche market” might be the wrong term for this site. It is not interested in creating a market. Nor is it interested in making a profit. There are no ads on the site and it proudly boasts a budget of […]

I just got a great email message:
Dear Mr. McGuire,
I have recently opened a library in the virtual world of Second Life (www.secondlife.com), and I took the liberty of introducing some of your audio book files into our collection. We, The Second Life Literary Foundation, are a purely non-profit group, and all books using Librivox files […]

Every once in a while someone writes a really nice blog comment about LibriVox. This is one:
In tangential news, we’ve upped production approximately 6000% in the past couple weeks, with a couple neat discoveries.
First of all, http://librivox.org is a free source for public domain recordings of public domain books. Now, I don’t know about y’all, […]

WHAT IS IT? pdsounds is like LibriVox for audio-other-than-text. Go there to find recordings of babies sneezing, cats purring and fireworks exploding. It’s all dedicated to the public domain, and therefore is available for people to use in all sorts of ways. Sounds from there make regular appearances in my LibriVox Community Podcasts, for example!
TAKE […]

Free Listens is a blog dedicated to reviewing free audiobooks (including some LibriVox books), with new posts weekly. We particularly like the sensible/honest review policies:
* Solo recordings - I tend to review recordings made by one person, rather than the chapter-per-person organization of the Librivox group recordings. I do this for two reasons: 1) I […]
